Definitions

Within the region I work in, most people use different type of slangs or I’m unable to directly translate since my Malay is exceptionally rubbish. Here are a list of definitions of the slang that are used at work

Abang: Literally means older brother. Used for a guy who is older than you but mostly used as an endearing term for a guy. Rather dodgy if you do use it often in my opinion.

Dik: Short form for adik. A young’un. Usually what you call someone younger than you or a child.

Feng Shui: a Chinese geomantic practice in which a structure or site is chosen or configured so as to harmonize with the spiritual forces that inhabit it; also : orientation, placement, or arrangement according to the precepts of feng shui <auspicious feng shui> (Taken from Merriam-Webster) (Wiki-link)

Kak: Short form for kakak. Literally means older sister but is used to a girl who is slightly older than you.

Lah: The infamous lah. No definition for it, but it’s just used to end a sentence in Malaysia. It adds emphasis usually. Most foreigners aren’t able to implement it.
